Star Trek Enterprise: Fanfic: Artifacts

  • Apr. 9th, 2015 at 9:56 PM
Title: Artifacts
Fandom: Star Trek Enterprise
Rating: PG
Length: 300
Pairing, Characters: Jonathan Archer/Malcolm Reed, Phlox, T'Pol
Content notes: AU post-ep to "Twilight" (Season 3)
Author notes: This takes place a day or two after Jonathan suffered a brain injury while rescuing T'Pol from the effects of a dangerous anomaly in the Delphic Expanse. When Archer wakes in Sickbay, Phlox assured him that it was only a mild concussion. His dreams say otherwise. This is a triple drabble in three scenes with dialogue only.
Summary: What really happened?

"These results must be incorrect, Doctor."

"I will repeat the test if you like, but I assure you there is no doubt that the hair sample tested contains only Vulcan DNA – specifically yours. Would you care to tell me why this is a concern."

"It is simply not possible. The hair you tested is much longer than my own. I found the hair clasp on the floor in my quarters – I have never seen it before. I will need to discuss this with Captain Archer."

"As you wish, T'Pol. Let me know if I can be of any further assistance."

"Captain, I apologize for disturbing you, but I have encountered something that I cannot explain."

"What is it, T'Pol? It must be important."

"I found this in my quarters. I asked Doctor Phlox to scan the DNA of the long hair caught in the clasp."

"It looks like a barrette... something Hoshi might wear. Was it hers?"

"No. Phlox says the hair is mine. I don't know how that is possible.

"I don't know either. But there's something you should know. Following my concussion, I had some very vivid dreams. You were a part of them... wearing that hair clip."

'Jonathan, if you ever need a reminder, always know that I love you. Malcolm'

"It's my handwriting, Jon."

"I found it in the pocket of my undershirt. I don't remember you ever writing me a love note... in ink on a scrap of paper."

"The sentiment is real, but I have no memory of writing it... or why."

"I had some vivid dreams when I was unconscious in sickbay. Maybe it was more than a dream... and this is some kind of artifact of whatever we actually experienced."

"Possibly. Do you remember any of the details?"

"Malcolm, the Xindi won."
