Ryan frowned as he read the inspectors’ reports. The latest attempt at keeping the systems clean had failed. Massive clogs of algae were damaging critical mechanisms in his city. He’d devised more drastic measures, but the biologists balked, babbling about preserving marine diversity.

The scientists from the surface were disconnected, far removed from his vision. It was easy for them to be enthusiasts.
