Inspired by this video of Squibbing, an annual thing done in the town of Bridgewater. Title means Dwarf-candles (fireworks).
Summary: Dwarves like to play with fire

Squibbing

Dwarves have understood principles of explosion, combustion, calcination, and all sorts of things having to do with fire and rapid interaction of volatile materials mineral, chemical and aetheric. Fire is one of their most well used and respected tools, and they enjoy playing as well as working with it. Durin's Day is a fire-festival, though among the Dwarves of Erebor and Ered Luin, once of Khazad-Dum, that is a more solemn feast these days than once it was. Maker's Day, heralding in Summer, remains an occasion of fireworks and fire-dancing and all manner of fiery exuberance, squibbing not the least.

Ok....must know. What is squibbing? I thought I was Hobbit/LOTR literate, but clearly not enough! Happy New Year to you.

Squibbing is a thing that happens in the rl town of Bridgwater, Somerset (like this). It's part of the annual Guy Fawkes Carnival there. lferion, when I mentioned it, thought that Dwarves would be into squibbing - hardcore fireworks, no frilly wizards' stuff!

But it wasn't in Middle Earth until now. Possibly Tolkien had just never been to Bridgwater. ;-)

I just watched squibbing. It is absolutely PERFECT for Dwarves. (And I don't have to turn in my LOTR basic literacy badge. I fully acknowledge that I don't have advanced LOTR literacy skills.) Thanks for putting that visual in my mind!

What Lost_Spook says - not canonically Tolkien, but it really needed to be there.

I'm glad you liked it! Happy New Year to you too!

Yes, it is definitely now in my head canon.
