The Hobbit: Fanfic: Perspective

  • Dec. 1st, 2014 at 8:27 AM
Title: Perspective
Fandom: The Hobbit
Rating: G
Length: 100
Content Notes: Makes reference to canonical events in an oblique way.
Author Notes: Thanks go to Zana for the idea of Balin and political disaster. This is not that tale, but I hope to get that finished for you soon!
Summary: Balin conemplates what is and is not properly a disaster.

Smaug was a disaster. The struggle that culminated with the bitter catastrophe that was Azanulbizar was disaster. For too many the long exile from the halls of their fathers and the comfort of being under stone had proved unsupportable, a more subtle disaster. The Quest had been fraught with disaster: goblins, spiders, starvation, Elves, the scouring of Laketown and the battle that had lost them more than Balin chose to think on. Disaster was a tunnel collapse, an avalanche, a pocket of bad, explosive air. The necessity to treat with those self-same Elves for food was merely very, very irritating.
