Author notes: Also for 40daysofdrabbles prompt sunlight. The title is from With You by JTS & Technikore which I was listening to when I was walking to work. This drabble doesn’t fit into the being in love with you (is like…) ‘verse.
Summary: “Wallowing?” Chakotay asked.

Kathryn absently made patterns with her hand in the flowing river, holding back threatening tears as the ripples glistened in the low early morning sunlight. Yet again, her life was getting turned upside down. She really wasn’t relishing a return Voyager, the ship that had become her home and family over the last two years. New Earth during her exile with Chakotay had also given her a home and a family.

“Wallowing?” Chakotay asked.

“Contemplating,” she replied, failing to keep the heartbreak out of her voice.

“Anything in particular?”

“How the Delta Quadrant tries to break the things I build.”
