Cute phrase for an ugly business, Vince thinks, shoveling more dirt on the make-shift grave of a man who wasn’t supposed to die tonight. Less of an immediate threat than I’m gonna kill you, more a reminder that death is always right there with you in this business.

The lights from the parkway don’t reach this spot, but the traffic sounds are louder than the river, even at this time of night. Truckers on their way to somewhere else, maybe.

Greco doesn’t bother to repeat his threats from earlier. The dirty shovels do all the talking.
