Summary: “Have you been to sickbay?”

Chakotay unzipped his boots, removed them, placing them beside his seat. He slowly wiggled his toes inside his socks, which Kathryn noticed were not matching and looked like they were inside out.

“Did the refresher eat your socks?” she asked, intrigued by the bright yellow and dark purple adorning his feet.

“No,” he replied, carefully glancing at Kathryn’s slippers. “They were the first pair I took out of the drawer. I didn’t realise they were odd until I put them on.”

“Why are they inside out?”

“The seams catch my little toe, it bothers me. Why are you wearing your slippers?”

Looking around to see if anything was paying attention to them, she diverted her attention back to Chakotay. “I caught my foot in the sheets when I got up and I stubbed my toe on the carpet. I couldn’t get my boots on.”

“And…”

“I broke my toe.”

“Have you been to sickbay?”

“Of course not,” Kathryn started, unable to keep the humour out of her reply. “I don’t want to bother the doctor with an accidentally self inflicted minor injury.”

“It’s quiet enough, if you want to go now.”

“Thanks but I can wait until I’m off duty.”
