Summary: Finally knowing the truth doesn’t mean that things aren’t still broken.


It’s hard to say whose fault it is, tracing a winding spiral of choices back to their source. Every decision is the new root of a spreading tangle. Maybe everyone is to blame, at least in part, in the end.

The person who isn’t Botpleng, not really, not anymore, lies in the field where the original Botpleng died and stares up into the night. Instead of listening for the flames, he watches the stars twinkle along to the melody of a silent song.

“Brother,” he says, and covers his eyes with a hand. Even in the dark, the stars remain.
