Summary: Imagining Gao Tu during the ep 16 time skip.

The water is brilliant under the noonday sun. Gao Tu stands on the stone walkway between the tide pools and lifts his face, closing his eyes. The sea air is salty, like old tears washing away.

There’s a footstep behind him, and a warm chin rests on his shoulder. Gao Qing.

“I always wanted to come here,” she says, instead of asking if he’s okay. Gao Tu appreciates it more than he can say.

“It’s beautiful,” he says. “Thank you.”

“It’s my turn to take care of you,” she says, and Gao Tu can feel the warmth of her care.



They’ve rented a small apartment not far from the ocean. Gao Qing can review for exams anywhere, and there’s a good hospital close by. It’s odd, actually being an omega, and the distance from everything else helps.

Everyone here is a stranger, and they’re kind to an alpha sister and her pregnant omega brother. Gao Tu’s SIM card is at the bottom of the ocean, and Gao Qing left hers behind. If anything, the people in their old lives think they’re in Hong Kong, not here.

Gao Tu’s not sure if they’ll ever go back. If he even wants to.



He’s sitting in the courtyard, doing a little online work in the shade of a tree. The landlady, an elderly alpha who dotes on him while telling him about her grandchildren who live too far away, keeps bringing him warm water and cut-up fruit. Gao Qing has just stepped out to go to the store, and promised to bring back some cake.

The shadow of a bird passes overhead, and he remembers the paper plane when he first met Shen Wenlang. Gao Tu can feel the baby sometimes, like now, a gentle fluttering. Unlike the bird, the plane, it remains.
