The petals didn't fall.

Yinlou shook the tree harder. Nothing. She risked a glance back; Xiao Duo hadn't peeked. Yet.

She could quit; laugh it off. But she couldn't get past the sadness in his eyes before. Nope, no quitting. She would defeat this stupid tree!

Ramming her shoulder into it was not her smartest idea; doing it over and over again was plain stupidity. She'd have bruises like melons tomorrow.

But tonight, oh! The bewildered joy on Xiao Duo's face sparked through her like fireflies. The world narrowed down to his smile, and she thought: He's so pretty when he's happy.
