Buffy’s fists were hitting the punching bag, relentlessly.
Her eyes were focused on her inanimate target as she moved around it in what looked like a deadly dance she’d perfected through the years.
Spike closed the basement door and walked down the stairs keeping his eyes trained on her, mesmerized. “Something wrong, Slayer?”
“Nope,” she replied, without missing a beat. “Just getting some anger out of my system.”
“Didn’t know you had anger issues,” he joked.
Buffy stopped the bag and turned to look at him. “Funny you should say that. I used to take it all out on you.”

Spike shrugged. “I sort of volunteered.”
“That didn’t make it right,” she said, peeling the wraps from her knuckles.
He sat on his cot. “Well, it takes two to tango, luv. No point in rehashing the past when you can’t change it.”
“But we can learn from it,” she said, sitting next to him.
“Hence the punching bag?” he asked.
She let out a mirthless chuckle. “I’d prefer to use The First Evil as my target.”
“Except your target would be incorporeal.”
“And that’s the crux of the issue. We’re fighting a concept. All my power and strength are useless.”
