At first, Scott didn’t want to read the letter, even after Varian assured him it really WAS from his dad, because how could his dad go back to his own time and leave him behind? What sort of father would do that? Didn’t he care at all?

Well, of course he did, and the letter explained his reasons, including the trust he had in Fred and Varian to keep his son safe. Maybe in his dad’s place he might have done the same thing, because knowing his mom was alone back home, believing her husband and son were dead… That had to be an awful feeling, and anyway, his dad had figured Scott and Fred would follow as soon as they reached Atlanteum. He had no reason to think otherwise.

Only now, with the Source destroyed, the Transfer Generator was useless. There would be no going home by that route; he, and Fred, and Varian would have to get back to their own times the hard way, by walking across the island in search of Evoland and the portal that would take them home.

Scott fingered the letter, tucked in his inside jacket pocket, a reminder that his mom and dad were waiting for him to return home. He didn’t know how long the journey would take, but he knew he would get there, he had to keep believing that, had to stay strong. He was thirteen, not a little kid, and it wasn’t like he was travelling alone.

He had Varian as guide, Fred as protector, and now Liana as well. It would be fun, an adventure, like a hiking and camping trip. He’d been on enough of those with his dad that it didn’t bother him. The stories he’d have to tell his parents when he got home!
