Author notes: The title is from ALL THAT LIFE by Dawn Garisch.
Summary: In which India grows up.

It isn’t revenge when she lines up the shot, both eyes open, sheriff in the crosshairs. Red paints the flowers, the cornstalks.

It isn’t revenge when she aims at her uncle, the slick smears down the wall, his last breaths.

It isn’t revenge when she walks out on her mother, still gasping on the floor, face twisted with hate.

There are so many things India could say, but she doesn’t waste her breath. The blood soaking the side of her face says enough.

Her father taught her, waiting quietly for the ducks to take off. This hunt is for herself.
