"Wait," Ramirez said, setting his cup of coffee back down on the table. "They're real?"

I nodded. "Yup. Very real."

"Fire-breathing and scales and all?"

Another nod. "Yeah. At least, I assume so. The one I met was in a human guise."

Ramirez blinked. "They can shapeshift too?"

What could I do but shrug. "Magic, man. They're hella powerful. And way bigger than you probably think. Like - way bigger."

He sipped his coffee, then set the cup back down again. "You know, I don't think I want to know any more, man. This is - a lot."

"I get it. You can always talk to Michael if you want to get some inside info about one for real."

"Wh- how - what?"

I grinned a little. "He fought one at least once."

"Where do you meet your friends, Dresden?"

"Carlos, one of the first mission things you and I did together had us riding a zombie dinosaur, why do dragon-slayers confound you?"

He snorted and smirked at me, then gave me the finger.
