Buffy walked down the stairs holding a mug of warmed-up blood for Spike, who paused his push-ups.
“Don’t stop on my account,” she said.
He stood up. “Just working on getting back in shape.”
“Are you feeling better, then?” she asked, handing him the mug.
“I’m all healed,” he nodded, taking it. “Thanks. But you don’t need to wait on me.”
“I’m not. That’s a little bribe.”
He took a sip, frowning. “What for?”
“As the senior Slayer, it’s my duty to train the girls… and I thought you could help me with that. If you feel up to it.”

He arched his brow. “How?”
“With some sparring, fight simulations,” she said, shrugging. “You know? The kind of stuff that won’t activate your chip. It’d be the closest thing to a real fight they can get, without any real life threats.”
He scoffed. “Like I didn’t almost rip what’s-his-name’s throat out.”
“Andrew? He got a minor bite scar, big whoop. And The First was controlling you, Spike.”
“It could happen again!”
“If it does, I’ll stop you.” She touched his cheek. “Do you trust me?”
“Yes.”
“It’s also my duty to protect those girls. I won’t let you hurt them.”
