Summary: Kathryn looked the youngest senior officer on the crew. “Of course, within reason.”

Harry found a way to pick his jaw up off the floor and ask the Captain where she learned to play pool the way she did. “Can I ask you something?” he said, his nerves apparent to those who stayed once the excitement had died down.

“How do you get good at something like playing pool?”

Smiling at the something worded question, Kathryn answered hopeful she was boasting. “My aunt used to take me and my sister to her snooker club, we learned how to play from ex-professionals.”

“Was it easy to learn?” he asked, grimacing at how silly the question sounded as soon as the words came out of his mouth.

“My sister didn’t like it so she would sit at a table and draw while I played.”

“Did you always win?”

“Not at first and when I did start winning I thought that maybe my opponents were letting me win.”

“Were they?”

“I didn’t ask, I was happy that I got to take a trophy home that wasn’t for academic excellence.”
