“Are you done yet?” asked Spike, grumbling.
Rolling her eyes, Buffy pressed on the edges of the fake beard to make it stick. “Maybe I would be done already if you stopped fidgeting!”
“This bloody Santa suit is all scratchy!” he complained, squirming. “What is it made out of, sandpaper?”
She slipped Santa’s hat on his head. “You used to sleep on concrete in your crypt. When did you become so delicate?”
“What’s one thing got to do with the other?”
“Look, I know this is not your idea of fun,” she started, adjusting the rest of the Santa suit.

“What gave it away?” he deadpanned.
“But you’re doing it for our niece, remember?” she continued, taking his hands. “Besides, it’s just for a couple of hours and I promise it’ll be worth it when you see the pure joy sparkling in her eyes.”
“Bloody hell,” he groused. “It’s not fair to use our niece to win an argument. It’s emotional blackmail.”
Buffy huffed in frustration. “Will you stop being such a drama queen? I know it’s all for show. There’s nothing you wouldn’t do for Joyce.”
“Or you, or Dawn. You Summers women are the bane of my existence.”

“Bummer,” she said, shaking her head. “I had a little surprise in store for you because I was so proud that you offered to fill in for Xander since he’s in bed with the flu.”
“What surprise?”
She shrugged, playing with her hair. “Well, when I got your Santa suit I also purchased an elf costume for myself.”
Spike gulped, his interest piqued. “Go on.”
“Once you’re done playing family-safe Santa, we could come home and you could get very inappropriate with one of your workers.”
“Adult-rated role-playing?” he smirked. “Get ready to see some joy sparkling in my eyes.”
