It all came out wrong.

He had rehearsed it in his head over and over. But when it came to it, what he said was something quite different.

“If you have any love for me at all, you’ll help me.”

Was it Justice speaking through him? Or was it his own bitter heart?

“You owe it to me,” he said, compounding the damage.

Sara’s face became utterly still. It was unnerving. Her temper was quick and fierce. But it was absent in response to his blatant manipulation.

She looked away, swallowed.

“Okay,” she said. “What do you need from me?”
