Buffy paid for the milkshakes and handed one to her sister.
“It’s just a cute little rose,” said Dawn, taking a sip of her beverage. “Tiny, in fact. Barely noticeable at all. Ask Janice to show you hers, you’ll see!”
“I’m not asking Janice to show me her tattoo, and you are not getting one. End of discussion,” said Buffy, giving her a stern look.
“Why not?” asked Dawn.
“Because you’re a minor, I’m your guardian, and you can’t get tattooed without my consent.”
Dawn snorted. “That’s called abuse of power, you know?”
“Mom wouldn’t let you get one, either.”

Dawn lowered her gaze. “I know.”
“So stop complaining.”
“But it’s so unfair!” complained the teen. “I made a deal with Janice that we’d get matching tattoos, and she’s already got hers! Besides, I can’t go back on my word, it’ll trigger a streak of bad luck.”
“Isn’t that when you break a mirror?” asked Buffy, furrowing her brow. “Anyway, you shouldn’t have made a promise that you knew you wouldn’t be able to keep, Dawnie.”
She smirked. “Age is relative. And technically I’m the Key, remember? I’m as old as time.”
“Not for the State of California, young lady.”
