Nigel hadn’t committed Sydney's choice of outfit for their hunts to memory but he always stopped at the handle of the knife carefully sheathed in her right boot.

“Is that a fashion statement?” he asked, glancing towards the weapon.

“Hmm?”

“The knife in your boot.”

“Oh that. No it’s not.”

“Why is it there?”

“In a combat situation I can reach and retrieve it before gaining the upper hand on an assailant.”

Slowly nodding his head at the sensible if slightly concerning answer, Nigel said, “Do I get a weapon?

“One day, soon. You just have to be patient, Nigel.”
