Mikey was up to something.

Raph knew it. Leo knew it. Sensei knew it. Donny had the doors firmly shut on the train car in his lab and was working on the next phase of the sewer slider, but if not for that, he'd know it too.

The signs were all there: random chortling bouncing off the walls and echoing in the corners. Mikey skulking around in the shadows, trying as hard as he could to not look suspicious while simultaneously looking incredibly suspicious. The shit-eating grin on his face.

Michelangelo's history was peppered with little annoying things he did just because he knew they'd drive everyone else up the walls, from random ambushes to elaborate traps, all of which he tried to slide by Master Splinter under the guise of training. Every time, he'd be so unsubtle about it that it felt like a shadow of a gigantic shark underneath a small fishing boat. How hard did they have to brace for impact?

Michelangelo's distant chuckles sent shivers down everyone's spines.

"I'm gonna go see if the showers are booby trapped," Raph grumbled at Leo as he stormed past, looking just as angry as he did sweaty and tired from his morning workout. Leo tipped his head from his meditative perch, closing his eyes to refocus and wishing Raph luck in his head. The banging sounds from Donny's lab made it hard to still his mind, especially since Leo could feel Mikey creeping closer. Leo tried to sneak a peek; was there something in his hands? Was he going to do something?

Mikey tiptoed past him, shoulders shaking in amusement, and Leo tried not to be too obvious about his sigh of relief once Mikey had fully passed. He could hear the way Sensei also breathed a near-silent sigh of relief as Mikey continued to shuffle by.

Safe!

Raph ducked through the door, towel around his shoulders, just in time to have Mikey slip past him. "Oh no you don't," he growled, grabbing him by the arm. "Nothin' was wrong with the showers, which means you've booby trapped the kitchen, or one of our bedrooms, and that shell don't fly."

Leo's eyes flew fully open. He couldn't help it; he was curious too. Master Splinter's ears twitched towards the confrontation.

Mikey's shit-eating grin grew five sizes larger. "Oh, that's what you're worried about?" He asked. Raph shook him a little. Mikey laughed. "I think you guys need a chill pill, so why don't you take it with a nice drink of water!" The last bit was shouted for some reason.

That reason became clear the moment Sensei cried out in alarm and spun on his heels, just in time for Leo to feel something cold and heavy hit him on the back of the head, and he turned just in time to watch another jet of water come flying at Raph, soaking both him and Mikey, who spluttered indignantly. "Hey, I thought we agreed I'd be a no-splash zone!"

"That depended on you being far enough away from the targets!" Donny retorted, shifting the weight of his... water gun? On his shoulder. The thing was huge, looking almost like a rocket launcher.

Raph looked ready to throttle Mikey. Leo slowly stood up, exchanging a look with Master Splinter.

Donny flashed them both a quick sheepish smile. "Just testing out my latest, uh, invention?" He slowly started setting it on the ground, ever careful with his precious creations despite the growing tension. "And you have to admit, Sensei, we got you pretty good. All good ninjas have to master the sneak attack, right?"

Leo could see, out of the corner of his eye, Sensei signaling to him. One, two, three...

Leo dove for the souped up water gun.
