Suo can't sleep, and he can’t forget. Can’t forget the feeling of crimson blood leaking between his fingers as the girl cried out his name.

He hadn’t been able to kill her at the end. She was beautiful, and she spoke like a woman who’d never known anything but war. And in that moment, Suo had wanted to take her with him into a new life... a real life. At that moment, the war didn’t matter. Just... the future.

His sword felt so much heavier now. He’d let himself dream once, and now the fighting felt pointless, hopeless and never-ending.
