Mike's face is branded with the leather-print of the hot tarmac; the road he's always on frowning upon him today. He's never sure if he's asleep or awake here – it's the type of place that only lasts a few minutes.

He decides not to look at the face in the road, but to stay here alone a while. Alone is how he functions best. He doesn't need Mom, or Dad, or Scott. Love only ever makes the narcolepsy worse. Sex and cocaine are the dual antidotes to stress.

Scott pulls up. Mike is asleep, then.

He gets in the car.
