Spike was napping in his armchair when Dawn dashed into his crypt, eyes wide and all flustered. “Please, save me!” she exclaimed.
Spike sprang to his feet and ran to the door, pushing her farther back into the crypt. “Who’s chasing you? A demon?” he asked, peering outside while avoiding the rays of sunlight.
Dawn sat on a sarcophagus, rolling her eyes. “Nobody’s chasing me. Anya wants to throw me a birthday party.”
Spike closed the door and frowned. “You said you needed saving!”
“Yes, because she’s talking about duck duck goose and other children’s games! I’m not in kindergarten!”

Spike gave her a puzzled look, scratching his head. “And how do you suppose I could save you from… that?”
“I don’t know,” she said with a shrug. “Maybe you could kidnap me so I’ll be spared from being humiliated in front of my schoolmates.”
He sat next to her and scoffed. “Any idea that won’t have the Scoobies hunting me down with a stake?”
Dawn sighed, fidgeting with her hands. “I don’t want a party,” she murmured. “I know Anya and the guys mean well, but… they didn’t even bother to ask me if I wanted to do something.”

“So tell ’em you don’t want a sodding party. They can’t force you.”
“You don’t think I tried?” she shrieked. “They passive-aggressively brushed me off with their patented ‘we’re adults and know what’s best for you’ attitude.”
“Even Tara?” he asked in disbelief.
Dawn frowned. “She wasn’t there.”
“Talk to her, she seems reasonable enough,” said Spike. “She’ll know how to knock some sense into those pillocks. If all else fails, we’ll see about that kidnapping plan,” he added with a wink.
She jumped to her feet and hugged him. “I knew I could count on you!”
“Any time, Nibblet.”
