Challenge: #428 - Rain

Dawn yelped when the front door was flung open and the Buffybot marched inside, walked straight into the wall in the foyer, and froze right there. Frowning, Dawn turned off the TV and set the bowl of popcorn on the coffee table, standing up in time to see Spike walk in as well, all flustered and dripping wet. “Soddin’ bint!” he barked at the unmoving robot as he closed the door.
“Spike, what happened?” asked Dawn while she tried unsuccessfully to make the Buffybot move from the wall.
“A vampire short-circuited the stupid robot by shoving it into a tombstone.”

At Dawn’s insistence, the Buffybot turned its head, revealing an opening on the side of its face with exposed wires. “There’s mustache in your shoe,” it blurted out, flashing a broad grin. “You’re my sister.”
Spike rolled his eyes. “The sodding rain got the circuits wet, made it all worse, and then Xander and Anya fled, leaving me to deal with the malfunctioning robot.”
“When I get jumbled I must go to Willow,” said the robot.
“Yeah, it kept repeating that while bumping into everything on its way,” said Spike. “I had to pick up all your neighbors’ toppled-over bins.”

“Willow programmed her like that. But she isn’t here now, she’s out with Tara,” explained Dawn, tugging the Buffybot toward the couch. “I’ll just turn her off, so she doesn’t… go bump into the night.”
Spike watched Dawn as she made the robot sit, then lifted the shirt at the back, and pressed a button behind a small lid. There was a short whirring sound before the robot went still.
“Will you be okay for a while?” asked Spike.
“Why? Where are you going?”
“To get some pizza. Popcorn ain’t dinner.”
Dawn grinned. “With extra anchovies?”
He nodded and left.

Yep, big Poppa/brother Spike! :) LOVE these two together, and am so glad to finally be seeing them in a non-romantic light again!

Oh, I'm glad you liked it. I'm a huge fan of their friendship! I have a whole bunch of these. 😄
And I love Spike going all big brother-y with her... I honestly cannot see them in a romantic light.
I know it's out there and it's cool that there's fanfic for every taste too, but romantic Spike & Dawn is just not for me. 😝

I used to write and enjoy Spike/Dawn, and a lot of other pairings that I've since come to regret. A lot of crazy pairings. LOL But I was in a really dark place and in an EXTREMELY unhealthy relationship at the time. Since meeting my husband and breaking free of a lot of mess, let's just say there's a lot of old pairings I can no longer see in the same light again. But that doesn't mean I have ANYTHING against those who do still enjoy them!!!

There's even some that are perfectly healthy, like Xena/Gabrielle (if you know/recall that fandom), that just don't sit well with me anymore.

Well, that's the greatness of the fanfic world, there's room for every taste. 😊
And sometimes it happens growing up or through new experiences that our taste also changes, it's only natural.
I'm familiar with the show Xena but I never watched it so I can't say I know any of the pairings.

Agreed. :)

I admit that one of the things that's bothered me the most about returning to fandom is my mixed feelings for some of the pairings that I once enjoyed with that person before. So again, it's really nice to be finding new likings for old pairings, just perhaps no longer romantically inclined. :)
