Summary: There is a new piece of gossip at the station house. Blair hasn’t heard it yet, but Jim did and he’s not happy.
Blair Sandburg was exhausted. They had worked all day and night on a case and now that he was done taking the files to records, they could think about going home.
Home had a nice ring to it. Blair hurried back up to the bullpen and didn’t listen to anything, anyone was saying. On this day, that was a very good idea. Blair was part of the new rumor.
Jim had heard the rumor earlier and tried not to let it bother him, but it wasn’t working. Jim hated gossip. It was never something grand and worth mentioning.
Blair sat back down at his desk and whispered, “Are you done yet? Simon said we can go as soon as your finished. And we’re off tomorrow, so we can crash and burn today. Are you as tired as I feel?”
“I’m trying to type this report, Blair. Find something to do to keep you busy.” Jim didn’t mean to take his mood out on Blair but he was just so easy sometimes.
“I’m sorry…” Blair got up and walked into the breakroom. There was no coffee, so Blair started two pots of coffee and began to pace in the breakroom.
Blair wondered why Jim was so upset earlier. Both men would have to work it out.”
Megan walked into the breakroom and said, “Wait till I tell you who is staring in the latest piece of gossip. Rumor has it that you and I are fucking each other and Jim is mad because of that. I’m just pissed off that Jim had to hear that from the idiots.”
“Who started this and why would Jim be upset if they’re talking about it. He knows we’re not sleeping together so what’s the fuss?”
“They’re saying that we’re really happy and that poor Ellison can’t keep his women or men at his side. He was spitting nails earlier.”
“Oh, great. We should tell them that were a threesome. They’d probably buy it,” Blair said, snickering.
“Oh, that’s good. Let me wait until someone is in the bullpen and I’ll kiss Jim.”
“Jim probably won’t like it too fucking much. He hates gossip.”
Four cops from robbery came up to give Jim some reports that he had asked for. Megan took him a cup of coffee and said, “You’re kicking butt, taking names today.” And then she kissed him. The four cops saw it of course and left immediately.
“What the fuck are you doing, Connor? We don’t kiss…”
“I thought it would be fun if they thought we were a threesome. It was my idea. Sandy figured you wouldn’t like it. So be mad at me if you must.”
“I guess now they think we’re both sleeping with you. I’m not sure that’s a bad form of gossip or not.”
“Oh, shut up, Jimbo. Just be glad it’s going to stop now.”
Rafe came in and said, “Ellison, what the hell are you, Sandburg and Connor doing?”
“None of your business,” Jim answered.
Megan walked away, smiling like crazy. Boy that had worked really fast. She headed into the breakroom and said, “We’re officially a threesome. So smile at me a lot. Okay?”
“You’re evil, Megan, but thank you. I sort of like the idea,” Blair teased.
“Jim got a kiss; did you want one?”
“Hell yes, but wait till someone is in the bullpen. That’ll give them a lot to talk about.”
Blair sat at his desk and smiled at Jim. Jim smiled back and said, “I’m almost done. Then we can leave for the night. Maybe we’ll invite Megan over, since we’re a threesome.” Jim started laughing.
“That’s a wonderful idea. I’ll be sure someone hears it.”
Jim took his report into Simon’s office and went back to his desk and said, “Chief, are you ready?”
“I am. Let’s say goodbye to everyone.”
Joel and two guys from Homicide walked into the bullpen and Jim said, “Megan, we’ll be at home. See you there.”
“No worries. I’m off in an hour.”
Jim winked at her and got on the elevator. The door shut and Blair started to laugh. “You’re evil, man. But cute as can be. And for some reason, I’m extra horny thinking about a threesome.”
“Same here. Maybe she brought it up because she’s lonely.”
“Could be,” Blair agreed.
“We’ll never find out,” Jim said.
“The evening is young. She may surprise us and show up.”
“If it happens, it’s going to be private. It wouldn’t be a joke.”
“I agree, Jim. Stop worrying. Might be a lot of fun.”
“It just might.” Jim winked at Blair and Blair knew he needed to call Megan.
He pulled his cell phone out and called her.
“Connor…”
“Hi, it’s me. Are you going to stop over tonight. We’re thinking it might be fun. What do you think about that?”
“I’ll be there in 40 minutes. Wait for me.”
Blair closed his cell and said, “It’s going to be fun.”
