Author notes: I haven't written anything proper since January and so this work is super awkward and clunky.
Summary: James tracks down Q. Of his own volition.

He finds Q on the bridge, leaning over the railing with a cigarette between his fingers.

"I sincerely hope you're not contemplating jumping over the railing," James says conversationally.

Q seems to startle. The coverup almost works with the minor exception of an alarmed look and the way he tries to hide the smoke gives it away.

Q blinks, "What are you doing here, Bond?"

James offers half a smile, "M told me to locate you. I'll give you the credit — you are remarkably difficult to find."

"That was rather the point," Q says and turns towards the river once more. His eyes are distant which is cause for alarm. It's the sharp focus that makes Q so utterly interesting.

He knows it was stupid of him to come here — especially on false pretenses. James is not the best person to handle a psychological crisis but this is Q and for some reason he can't let it go. And then there is the second mistake which makes him reach out, fingers closing around his collar and kiss him.

He never was good at controlling his impulses and this time it works.

And it works because it is the strangest, loveliest and entirely unforgettable kiss of his life.

Q steps back, clearing his throat. "What was that for?"

"Just a reminder that there are good things in the world."

Q pinches the bridge of his nose. "What. You want me to report you to HR?"

James blinks. "Certainly not. I'd rather you focus on my point."

"Yes, I heard you the first time. Good things and some hippie nonsense."

"You're not going to report me, are you?"

Q smiles; a devastating sight of both bitterness and fondness.

"Of course not," Q says, "and while I appreciate your… attempts to cheer me up, I'd rather you didn't repeat it."

Bond smiles. "You don't have to worry about it, it was a one time thing.

I am by no means a James Bond fan, but I feel like I get a sense of these characters and their relationship through the dialogue and body language — including how intensely James is paying attention the the way Q acts, whether he realizes it or not.
