It's a dream, and Lulu knows Ginnem is gone; she's been to see her, on the Farplane. Still, the press of Ginnem's hand is so real. Lulu smells vetiver and jasmine, and her eyes fill with tears.

 

"Soon, my Lady," she promises. "I'll find my way back to you soon."

 

Ginnem leans in, and Lulu knows for certain she’s dreaming. Ginnem never held Lulu like this while she lived. She never kissed Lulu the way Lulu longed to be kissed.

 

The kiss breaks, and Lulu wakes with a jolt. She's staring at a gunmetal ceiling; in the distance she can hear the drone of engines. The airship. She's in her bed, onboard the airship. Ginnem has been sent. Lulu sits up and looks over to where Yuna is sleeping in the bed beside hers.

 

She's undisturbed. The dim light that sits on the crate between Yuna's bed and Rikku's illuminates Yuna's face. Her mouth is hanging open and she's snoring a little. In the bed furthest from Lulu’s, Rikku lies on her front with one scrawny arm poking out from under her blanket. Lulu smiles; both of her roommates are sound asleep. The sight comforts her. She's safe, far away from that awful hollow and the tragedy of Lady Ginnem.

 

She sniffs, and dries her eyes. She can't cry for Ginnem, not when Yuna still needs her. She decides that if she lives to see the end of this pilgrimage, she will make her way back to Guadosalam. There are some things she needs to say to her late Lady Summoner. It would have been better if she'd found her voice while Ginnem still lived, but she supposes this will have to do.

 

Lulu lies down again and pulls her blanket over her shoulder. It takes a while for sleep to find her but when it does, she drifts off to the rumble of the airship. When her dreams come they do not trouble her, and she sleeps peacefully through the rest of the night.
