Media tags: discussion and a poll

  • May. 3rd, 2023 at 7:02 PM
Background: Dreamwidth has a 1500-tag limit, and [community profile] fan_flashworks is constantly bumping up against it. So we have an ongoing tag management project to try to gain ourselves some elbow room.

Today's topic: As part of this tag management project, we've been talking about the media tags (m: fanfiction, m: fanart, etc.).

We're not sure if anyone's actually using these! So we wanted to check in with you all before deciding between A) removing them entirely, or B) cutting them down to the most-used only. Option A) would make our mod lives easier, but if they are serving a purpose for some of you, we definitely want to take that into account when making our decision. :-)

Please take a moment to vote in this poll.

Poll #28875 Media Tag Use
Open to: Registered Users, detailed results viewable to: Access List, participants: 41

3 (7.3%)

So that's what those tags are! I never knew!

I use them occasionally to sort my own works, and as more information about other peoples.

I don’t use them so much that it would be a problem if they went away.

I don't use them and only typically use the fandom tag to find stuff, then I use the title of the post to sort the media I want to consume.

I only use the fandom tags. I don't think the media tags are really necessary, considering that I (and I think alot of other people here) will read/watch anything in their fandom regardless of what media form its in.

I use the fandom and author tags, the fandom tags when seeking something new to read and the author tags when trying to figure out what awards I may be able to earn (when I have the time to actually do that, usually, it seems, about once a year).

I use the fandom tags, and like being able to tell what type of work a work is, just by reading the tags. However, if you are approaching the limits, I guess you could delete them. Just please keep the fandom tags.

Re: Tags
Don't worry, we will definitely keep the fandom tags! Those and the nametags are absolutely essential. :D
