Summary: Blair tells Jim he loves him after making love and Jim doesn’t say a word about it. Leaving Blair to worry and fret about their relationship.
Twisted into Knots
Blair Sandburg was still new to the ‘I love Jim Ellison life’, but here he was, week 6, still in love. And tonight, he was going to bare all and tell Jim he loved him. Right now, he was at work in the bullpen, at the station. Blair had to get his head out of the clouds. Someone would figure out their relationship if he didn’t calm his act down.
Jim grabbed Blair’s jacket at 5:30 and said, “If you planned on riding with me, get the lead out, Chief.”
“Sorry, I was day dreaming.”
They got downstairs and into the truck without being accosted by anyone in Major Crimes. This was a good thing. Blair loved their co-workers and friends, but he loved Jim more. And he wanted to see Jim naked in the worst way. Blair didn’t understand why after six weeks, he was more into his sex life than anything. Blair adored this man that was driving insanely to the subway restaurant for sandwiches. No one had to cook tonight. More time for making love.
******************************
When they arrived home, Jim said, “Are you daydreaming again?”
“Yeah, so shoot me.”
Jim laughed and said, “Come on, hot shot. Let’s get upstairs and eat dinner. The Jags are on tonight.”
They walked into the loft and hung their coats up and Jim took off his gun, taking it upstairs to the safe in their bedroom. When he came down, Blair had plates on the table, a beer for each of them and chips to go with the sandwiches.
Jim told Blair all about the case he and Joel were working on as they ate. “I could really use some help on it tomorrow, if Megan Connor doesn’t hog all your time up again.”
“Hey, I’m a consultant to everyone, not just you. Although, this would be an excellent idea, wouldn’t it?”
“Promise me, I get to go first tomorrow?”
“Promise. Sorry, I’ve been so busy, Jim. I’m not ignoring you on purpose.”
Jim smiled at Blair and went to put his plate in the sink and wash his beer bottle out, to recycle it. Blair joined him and took his plate and beer into the kitchen.
As Jim washed dishes and Blair dried them, Blair asked, “What time does the Jags game start?”
“About 8:00. Why?”
“We could fuck like bunnies until the game starts, Jim.”
“What a good idea, Blair. Let’s go upstairs.”
They stripped, got comfortable on the bed and began their dance of love. Jim was so good at lovemaking that Blair couldn’t last as long as he wanted to. But he knew that he would come back for more much sooner than Jim did, so they were even in the love department.
When they lay exhausted on the bed afterwards, Blair kissed Jim and said, “I love you, Jim.”
Jim kissed him back and started to fall asleep. Blair couldn’t believe that Jim just ignored his ‘I love you’ remark. What the fuck? Evidently Blair didn’t mean anything to Jim. Blair was heartbroken. And as he lay there listening to Jim’s soft little snores, Blair’s stomach was twisting into knots. What was Blair supposed to do with this news flash?
Blair sneaked out of the bed, turned the tv on in their room and turned it to the station with the Jags playing. It was just starting. Blair was going to watch the game and hopefully keep from being sad. Blair saw this evening as a turning point in their love life. But it was only a turning point for Blair.
******************************
Jim woke up an hour into the game. “Hey, why didn’t you wake me up?”
“You seemed really tired. I figured you’d get up when you felt like it.”
“Blair, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing is wrong. I’m tired is all.”
“Come here and I’ll hold you in case you want to fall asleep in my arms while the game is on.”
“That’s okay.” Blair started hollering at the screen against the opposing team.
Jim watched him like a hawk and wondered what in the world was happening. Jim could sense that something was off in Blair’s being. Jim needed to think about things and figure this out on his own.
As they watched the game, Blair kept yawning, but Jim knew he was feigning his tiredness. Sure enough, Blair then kissed Jim goodnight and rolled onto his side, but still in Jim’s arms.
As Blair lay there, he wondered if Jim ever loved him. Jim had six weeks to prepare for it and nothing. Nada. Blair was saddened by this thought and wondered if he was going to stay with Jim. How can I stay with someone that doesn’t love me back?
It was time for Jim to figure out what was said or done. Blair acted as though his heart was broken in two. Why would he feel that way after the night of love they had?
Jim shut the tv off and fell into a fitful sleep.
******************************
When Jim woke up the next day, he stretched and remembered today was their day off. Jim loved day’s off. They did things together and Jim loved hanging with Blair. Then Jim noticed that Blair was no longer in bed, and worse yet, no where in the condo. Jim listened a second time and was very sure Blair wasn’t in their home.
Jim got out of bed and went downstairs to see if there was a note. Sure enough, Jim saw a note on the counter top in the kitchen by the coffee maker.
Jim,
I have some things on my mind and need to do some sorting on my own today. I’ll be home tonight. Don’t worry about me, I’m just a little confused.
Blair
Jim started pacing and was getting angrier as he paced. What the fuck had he done to Blair to make him sort things out. Jim finally sat down at the table and thought again about their lovemaking. Everything had been wonderful and Blair enjoyed it, Jim enjoyed it, so where was a problem? Was it because Jim fell asleep after the game? Jim was almost certain it wasn’t that. And then it hit, Jim. He told me he loved me and I ignored it because I didn’t know what to say back. Every time I fall in love, they dump me. I don’t want to be in love.
Jim showered, got dressed and made a pot of coffee. He made it super strong because Blair wasn’t there telling him how bad strong coffee was for him. Jim dialed Blair’s number and waited to see if Blair would answer.
“What?” Blair barked.
“I love you, Blair. I didn’t want to say it because every time I told someone I loved them, they dumped me. I was afraid.”
“I’m impressed that you figured out what was wrong all by yourself. You don’t have to worry about me, Jim. I’ll never leave. This is forever love. Sentinel and Guide belong together.”
“Will you come home?”
“I’m in the parking lot. I couldn’t leave. I felt like fighting for you, I guess.”
“Good. That means you still love me?”
“Of course, I still love you. I’m coming upstairs.”
“See you soon.”
Jim waited for his lover to come through the door before he attacked him, instead of in the hall. And both men knew that love was there to stay.
The end
