JJ loves Will, there’s no question of that; if she didn’t, she would’ve never married him. He’d a good man and a great dad, caring and supportive, always there for her no matter what. He understands her work, accepts that it’s something she needs to do, and would never demand that she give it up, no matter how much danger he knows it can put her in.

She loves her husband, loves their boys, loves the life they’ve built together, can’t imagine throwing it all away, and yet… she loves Spence too. He’s her best friend, knows her better than almost anyone, and she can’t picture her life without him in it, wouldn’t want to, but that doesn’t stop her from sometimes wondering what might have been, if…

If she’d never met Will, or if she’d never gotten pregnant. Henry, as much as she adores him, had not been planned. Will uprooted his entire life to move to DC and be with her, but if he hadn’t…

There are so many ifs, so many might have beens, so many unknowns, and she has no idea how Spence feels about her.

He loves her as a friend, she’s sure of that much, but if things had gone differently, could they have been something more? If their lives had taken different turns, would she and Spence have wound up together, a couple, maybe married, maybe even with kids? Or might it have changed things between them? Even if he feels the same way, there’s no guarantee they would have worked as a couple, and if they’d started a relationship only to have it fail, it might have cost them both their closest friendship.

One thing she’s sure of is that nobody can ever know. It’s her secret; she’ll keep it that way.
