Summary: Curufinwë and his wife name their newborn son.

Their child—their son!—wraps a chubby fist around his thumb, and Curufinwë chokes with joy.

"Telperinquar," he says. Silvered grasp: he has no gift of foresight, but he has faith in their child, that he will be a fine craftsman. With his parentage, how could he not?

”Curufinwë,” Angacirisië murmurs.

”Yes, beloved?”

”No.” Her gaze is distant, still focused on her birth-vision. “Him. Curufinwë.”

Curufinwë—the younger, the elder—can’t breathe. “Beloved,” he chokes, “are you sure?”

He knows she is; she would not bestow this name lightly.

(He lacks foresight—so why does dread cut at his heart?)
