Summary: Kageyama and Hinata compete over the sleeping arrangements at their recent training camp.


“Hey, we’re getting bunk beds!”, Tanaka’s yelling echoed through the halls of the old inn.

Kageyama’s heart sank. Bunk beds instead of futons. In middle school, he’d slept on one of those on a class trip.

The experience had been awful enough for him to develop a slight phobia.

It was fine, he told himself to stay calm. He’d settle for the bottom one. No reason to-

“Winner gets the top bunk! That’ll be me!”

Hinata took off like a lightning bolt, yanking Kageyama out of his thoughts.

His permanent scowl deepened. Oh, it was on.

“Like hell are you! Get back here, dumbass!”

Kageyama caught up to his rival and soon they were racing side to side, shoving at each other with grabby hands and pointy elbows.

He didn’t want to sleep in the stupid top bunk but much less did he want to lose.


“You’re slow, Yama. You’re getting rusty.”

“Shut your trap, I was tired from the bus ride!”

Kageyama tried to not let the relief show in his voice as he dropped his head onto the pillow.

His pride forbade him from losing on purpose so he had fought until the last step.

Pfft. It didn’t even count as a proper loss. Hinata was a cheater.

“I’m on top, that means I’m better than- Ow! Kageyama! That hurts, you brute!”

“I’m doing this until you shut up.”

Kageyama kicked the bed above him one more time for emphasis. ”I mean it.”

“Pah. Sore loser.” Hinata went silent after his last complaint.

Kageyama sighed in contentment. Sleeping in the bottom bunk wasn’t “cool”, but it sure had its perks.


That’s what he’d thought until the creaking of the bed frame woke him up at 3 a.m. because a certain dumbass needed to go to the toilet.
