교장은 리천 학생한테 대학교에 공부를 그만두면 된다고 말할때는 큰 일일 것 잘 알고 있다. 리천이는 가족도 보호자도 없지만 리천 학생은 션 교수의 학생인데 션 교수가 젊고 부지런하고 그의 학생들에 신경 쓰거든다. 션 교수는 교장이 말한 걸 당연히 안 좋아할 거하고 그는 필연적으로 법석을 떨거다.

근데 리천 학생처럼 션 교수가 의심스러운 평판이 안 좋은 보인 사람들과 어울린다. 설명될 수 없는 위험스러운 비밀 현상에 대해서 아는 사람들. 요즘은 션 교수가 저 사람들과 많이 시간을 보내고 있는 것 같다. 저 사람들이 살인과 범죄들을 수사할때 왜 너무 자꾸 질문을 물어보러 션 교수 사무실로 갈까? 션 교수가 그들을 돕고 그들의 편에 있는 걸 선택했는가 본다.

그 말은 션 교수가 대학교의 평판에는 신경 안 쓰는 것 분명히 뜻이다. 그는 과학엔 대해서 많이 알지만 대학교를 잘 운영하는 것에는 뭘 준요한지 이해하지 않다. 그는 학생들의 부모하고 다른 존요한 사람들을 행복하게 만들 방법도 모르겠다. 사실은, 아마도 젊기 때문에, 그가 현실 세계에 대해서 아무것도 거의 모르고 있는 것 같다.

그래서 대학의 이익을 아무거나 할 수 있을 교장은, 리천한테 말한 전에 션 교수한테 알려 주는 대신, 자신이 책임을 져야 됬는데. 그는 공부 그만하면 좋을거다고 리천한테 스스로 말해야 했다. "이런 힘든 시간엔 대학교를 다닐 게 너무 더 힘들지. 그럼 안 되지."
