It should have been embarrassing. Months after Cephiro’s restoration, and Clef still found himself caught by it - pausing every time he glimpsed the view from the window, distracted from whichever unending part of making over the administration of the entire land to have a different foundation he was meant to be working on that day.

There was plenty to do. More than enough to occupy the dozens of people that had pulled together to work on the issues. It felt, sometimes, overwhelming… and then he would glance out of the window, and stare, and feel the tension fading from his shoulders.

The scenery was constantly shifting, changing day by day as Cephiro stretched and uncoiled, relaxing into her new form. The rivers, the woodlands, the mountains, all seemed to be growing second by second, as soon as he took his eyes away from what was out there.

In his chest, the brightness that was his connection to his land was growing, too. Strengthening day by day, a candle flame building up into a steady hearth fire. It had been so long, he’d forgotten what it felt like, for Cephiro to be so strong.

If Cephiro could change and rebuild – altered beyond measure, yes, but vital and strong again – then they could fix the laws and the rules and the endless little details that all referred back to the Pillar system. With each one of them they removed, there seemed to be another new part of Cephiro unspooling outside.

He couldn’t wait to see what she could be when they had finished.
