The birds are less relaxing to watch, after the swarm. Even before their ill-fated rest stop, Claire had preferred keeping her eyes on the road - their next route, supply opportunity, gathering of infected to avoid - rather than mindless sightseeing.

Her eyes are drawn to the flash of wings now, just as they are any shambling shape on the horizon. It's not like they're in a forest - there are few enough of the things living in the sands of the west - but all that means is there is little water to spare for wetting her constantly dry mouth. The new threat is not welcome, but no one ever asked Claire what she wanted from life.

Not that K-Mart has eyes for anything but the dubiously human stranger in the backseat. It means that her efforts to keep her at least a little sheltered have worked, and also, unfortunately, that Claire has to watch her too. Bites back a flush - of annoyance - when she catches the pale, evaluating gaze in the rear-view mirror, and turns her attention to the road for a stretch.

Claire's not too overly fond of mystery their wandering savior brings with her either. Even if Carlos says he knows her. Still, admittedly, she hasn't tried to eat anyone. Yet. Might even prove useful, on an ongoing basis. Or leave her convoy of lost souls as abruptly as she arrived.

Either way - she'll just have to live with it until then.
