When Buffy agreed to go to this stupid frat party with Cordelia, this wasn’t how she expected the evening to end. She’d thought there’d be drinking, even though most of the partygoers would be underage, dancing to loud music, maybe some making out with a cute college guy…

Wrong. Instead, her punch was drugged, and now here she was, alongside Cordy and another girl, dangling in chains from the ceiling of an underground cavern, waiting to be sacrificed to a demon in exchange for good fortune. Wasn’t that just peachy?

‘Last time I’m ever doing Cordelia a favor,’ Buffy thought as she tugged on her chains. Why did she always seem to wind up in situations like this? Oh, right, because she was the Slayer.

Maybe this was what she deserved for lying to her mom, and worse, to Giles, just so she could let her hair down and do the whole teen bit for once: partying, having a good time, maybe a side-order of romance… Tom had seemed so nice at first; turned out he was the worst of the lot, leader of this little cult of Machismo, Machida, whatever.

Well, Buffy figured she’d hung around long enough, she wasn’t about to be a tasty morsel dangled temptingly for a demon overlord to snack on just so some rich kids could keep their daddies’ tradition going. What would happen to them when their benefactor was out of the picture? She hoped it would be bad! One more tug on the chains and she was free; now she’d show those jerks they’d picked the wrong girl to mess with!

She could hear sounds of a fight going on upstairs, but she tuned it out; whatever it was could wait until she’d dealt with Tom and his buddies. This was personal!
