Sebastian watched as Blaine proposed to Kurt and felt his heartbreak. Maybe Blaine was always heading in this direction, and all they had were some late-night phone conversations and a connection that only Sebastian felt. Or maybe he had ruined it all by coming on too strong, too blasé, and too much of an asshole.

Unfortunately, back in November of his junior year, all he knew was that the Warblers worshipped Blaine, and he wanted in on it, preferably physically. He had no concept of love or devotion, or fragility.

Particularly his own.

So, now he had to watch the boy, the one he was head over heels for, call someone else their soulmate and propose eternity. Even if they didn’t last (and Sebastian didn’t see how they could), his shot has already passed, and he wouldn’t, couldn’t let himself be second choice. It might be his pride talking, but pride was all he had left.


He wouldn’t try to rekindle their friendship. He wouldn’t orbit around Blaine waiting in the wings. He would go further afield and further into this new version of himself. The one with a heart to protect, but also maybe a willingness to try again.


He might always treasure the time Blaine had made for him, but he would be lying if he said he was sorry to go. Sometimes you have to release the ones you love, knowing full well they will never come back to you, just to breathe freely again.
