There is no silence here - even the air hums. Machinery thrumming, gears moving, cranks turning, air pumped – from the surface or recycling plant – there is never a moment of stillness. Not like the emptiness that sits in the hollow of the Aperture Science Relaxation Pod. Chell does not like the Aperture Science Relaxation Pod.

Even the small rooms she finds, the ones filled with colour and paint and messages are not quiet. Not like Chell. Chell is quiet.

Chell runs on spite, and if this world wants her to be loud, if the monster in the walls wants her to hear and listen and scream and speak - then she will be silent. She will be a silent thing, and draw her focus in tight, and cut her way through the ocean of noise until she finds a way to cut herself out into the safety of the real world.
