Title: A Wrong Number Meeting
Fandom: Modao Zushi
Rating: Teen
Length: 518
Content notes: Offscreen violence mentioned, Alternate Universe - Modern Setting with Magic
Author notes: This is a modern au combined with a creature au inspired by one of the fandom's many AU trends.
Summary: He doesn't expected to receive an accidental text from a past acquaintance during a night hunt
Unknown number, sent near midnight:
Xiongzhang, as previously agreed, I am letting you know that my hunt was successful. As such, I will be at home if you require me.
The text message comes right after Wei Wuxian has finished a routine Night hunt in the countryside. It had come with a few soft vibrations with a new message warning during his pursuit of a troublesome bird yao that had been bothering a village. The Cultivation Sects in the area could take care of it before the situation started escalating out of their control. And before calling in local rogue Cultivators, all because the Clans and their people either refused or had no desire to deal with it, or most small villages, like this one, were not equipped to afford their way too pricey assistance.
With a faint huff and annoyed twitch of his ears as he stuffed his phone into his back pocket and then decided to ignore it to put his focus on his tricky prey at the time.
Fast forward to being done with the job and his very grateful clients, who pay with him with small trinkets and some warm instead of many, Wei Wuxian sits in his car and stares with wide eyes at the text; he knows of one person and only one person that addresses their family member that way. A pretty someone he had crushed on from a distance when they were both on the cusp of reaching their first skins as young adults among dragons and foxes- and maybe, just maybe, he flirted a little with the young jade-like Dragon a few times. At least, he had done that before life and family moved on to follow the odd jobs outside beyond the short reach of the Cultivation World.
Lan Zhan, courtesy name Lan Wangji, is one of the twin Jades of the Lan Clan.
It had been a long time since those days when he had last seen the ethereally youthful Dragon in person and crossed paths with him despite being in the same circles more or less, but not the last time that Lan Zhan had ever crossed his mind.
Sitting in his car, Wei Wuxian sighed and ruffled his hair around his twitching ears as he stared at the phone screen lingering between the temptation to respond or delete the text message. Mostly because he had no idea how Lan Zhan would have mistakenly texted him instead of his brother, and he knew that Lan Zhan would have known instantly when his brother hadn't yet responded because he was a smarty-pants like that.
From: Wei Wuxian
To: Unknown Number
Hi, I think that you have the wrong number. But I am glad to hear that you are home safe after your hunt.
Chewing on his fingernail absent-mindedly, Wei Wuxian hit the send button before he could talk himself out of it and put the phone away so that he could start his long drive home. He was pretty confident that was the end of the matter, and Lan Zhan would remedy his phone situation without needing to talk with him again in this lifetime.
