Summary: Isaac Johnson tries to fulfill one of his rituals, despite being on second base.


Second base is Isaac's least favorite place to be on the field. From there, he can't make eye contact with Butt at home plate. It's not like he'd want to have them look at him; there's no room for distraction when you're playing the Crabs, especially when it's a road game. But it makes him feel better when he can see whoever's at bat, because everyone has weird superstitious rituals, and one of Isaac's is trying to add his focus to his teammate's while he's on base. He can see from first base, and from third, but here on second base his view is very much interrupted by the back of Finn James' head. So instead of looking at Butt's face, he aims a glare at James, as if the power of his stare could penetrate through her skull and transfer to his teammate. James winds up, the muscles in her back and shoulder tensing, and releases the pitch. Isaac can see the arc of it in his peripheral vision, but part of the magic of the ritual means he can't take his eyes off home plate where Butt is standing. So he doesn't.

Butt, of course, hits a triple.
