Summary: Slipping in and out of consciousness, something pulls at Frenchie’s awareness, while curled up with Kimiko.



Something pulls at his awareness. Perhaps it's the murmur of voices from across the room, or the warm breath blowing along his skin like a fresh breeze. He's not certain but something drags him up through the murk and into clearer waters.

Frenchie shifts and his arm brushes fabric and skin. His eyes flutter open and his lips form something like a smile. Kimiko is there with kind eyes and a tender look. "Mon coeur," he whispers.

Her smile deepens. She curls into him, all tangled limbs and messy hair. Warm skin presses against him, Kimiko's cheek against his neck; her fingers under his shirt, splayed across his chest. She tilts her head and leans in to kiss him, landing on his nose. Her eyes go wide, crinkling in silent laughter. He licks her cheek and chuckles softly.

In the moment everything is clear—the unfortunate past, the uncertain future, and most importantly the beautiful, yet ever-fleeting present.

The haze pulls at him, promising the next best thing to absolution. Oblivion. Entwining his fingers with hers, he gives into the current, floating on the edge of consciousness. Kimiko pulls a blanket over them both and down, down, down, he sinks.
