Buffy’s already tried talking to her friends, but Willow and Xander seem to have fallen under Ted’s spell just as completely as her mom has, so it’s obvious she’ll get no help there. Giles is too much of a grown-up, and anyway there are some things she just can’t talk to him about. Did Giles ever even HAVE parents? No, it’s doubtful she’d get any useful advice there. How to kill vampires and demons? Sure, that’s stuff every Watcher knows, but what to do about her mom’s creepy new boyfriend? Definitely not Giles territory.

There is one other person Buffy can talk to though, someone who’s guaranteed to listen: Angel, her very own captive audience. If she can’t talk to her boyfriend about family stuff…

And Angel does listen, because he’s good like that, even though she must be boring him, and he does give advice. Not the kind she was hoping for, he doesn’t back her all the way, but he does make her see her mom’s side, and that maybe Buffy is being a bit unfair. Because Angel’s been around a long time, way longer even than Giles, so he has experience. He knows how it feels to be alone. For a vampire with a soul, he’s amazingly good at understanding human emotions. Probably better than Buffy is.

Because Angel thinks she should, she’ll give Ted a chance, for her mom’s sake. That doesn’t mean she’ll like him, but maybe he’ll grow on her. Yeah, like a fungus.
