"One day, pet, there will come a time when there is no more hurt in this world, no more pain, no more suffering, no more hatred -- "

"So they do! They do hate me!"

"Now I didn't say that. Let me tell you a story, Nibblet. Once upon a time, there will be born one girl in all the world who will right every wrong. She will see all the pain and suffering in this world, and she will right every bit of it. She won't just stop at killing the Vampires and the other creatures of the night -- "

"But I don't want her to kill you! I don't want anybody to kill you!"

"Not me, Nibblet. The bad ones. The ones that will suck your blood!"

"Hee!"

"She will come into this world, and she will find love."

"Hey, luv, am I telling this story, or are you?"

"We are."

"Oh? Really?"

"Yes."

"So she'll come into this world and then what will happen?"

"She'll meet this beautiful person, this remarkably wonderful, beautiful person who's trying very hard to be beautiful both inside and out."

"What does that mean?"

"That means, pet, that they fight for what is right, and that includes accepting everybody just the way they are."

"Will the person they meet be a boy or a girl?"

"It doesn't matter."

"That's not what everybody else says. Every time I try to tell a story, that's one of the first things they want to know: if it's boy on boy, girl on girl, or boy on girl."

"Where're your mums?!"

"You are too young to be knowing that kind of language!"

"I didn't learn it from them."

"Xander!"

"HARRIS!"

"Nope. The kids at school. They're always asking if it's going to be boy on girl, boy on boy, or girl on girl."

"They better be glad Dawn's already graduated!"

"And that we haven't got a munchkin of our own yet!"

"Can you...? Is that even possible?"

"Luv, anything's possible. You're the one who taught me that. Anything good in this world is possible, no matter what the evil forces try to do."

"Hey, weren't you telling me a story?"

"Uh... Yeah. Sorry. I just can't think straight whenever your auntie comes too close."

"Is that anything like Mommy saying that when she gets close to Mom, she goes all twitterpated?"

"Twitterpated?! That's a new way of putting it!"

"No, it's not, luv. Don't you remember? Bambi."

"Oh. No. I really didn't. I'm surprised you did!"

"Not everything has to be all dark and grisly."

"Are you going to tell me the story, or not?"

"Oh. Well, hum, anyway, there's gonna be this girl born one day. She's going to be beautiful."

"Like my moms?"

"Like your moms and your auntie. But she's going to be especially beautiful and legendary, because she's going to teach this mean, old world that nothing outside a person counts except for their actions. Not their skin color, not their religion, not their sexual orientation. Nothing but their deeds and their heart."

"What color's a heart?"

"What?"

"What color's a heart?"

"Huh..."

"Hey, Giles, you want to field this one?"

"What is it, Spike?"

"Well, we were trying to tell the Nibblet here a story..."

"I'm hardly a story teller."

"Yes, but -- "

"Hey, Giles, did you find out where that nest it?"

"Yes. They have taken refuge in an old funeral parlor down on Bakersfield."

"Come on, Spike! Let's go!"

"But -- But -- You haven't answered my question!"

"Uncle Giles will answer your question, sweetie. Uncle Spike and I have to go."

"What was your query?"

"What color is a heart?"

"Buffy! Spike!"

"They've already left! Didn't you hear the door? What color is a heart?"

"Oh, dear Lord, what have you two gotten me into now?"
