"Mommy, why do the girls look at me so strange? One of them once even said that she didn't want to play with me because I might get a crush on her and start wanting to like her and kiss her and do other things. I'm not like that."

Willow's heart panged as her daughter made a face. She glanced up at Tara, who quietly came to sit beside them on the bed. "Well, sweetheart," she tried to console her, "some children just don't understand. Some children can be big meanies."

Willow could tell that her wife was searching for words, and she knew their child was near tears. She lifted a hand and did a small spell, one of her daughter's favorite acts. She levitated her hairbrush, brought it to her daughter's head, and began to softly brush her long hair.

"One day," she told her, "there will come a time when parents and children alike don't have to be afraid of the differences, but sometimes it's the differences that make us special."

"We're all special, Willow," Tara interjected, but their child seemed almost not to hear her more docile mother.

"You mean like you and the Witchcraft? All the spells you and Momma Tara like to do?"

"They're not what makes you special, honey. You make you special." Tara kissed the side of her head where the brush was not combing through her tangles.

"Bet the other kids at school can't do that though," Willow teased. "Bet their mothers don't brush their hair with magical brushes." She smiled at the resulting giggle from her words.

"It's only magical, because you made it that way! I don't care what they think." Their daughter decided, lifting her little shoulders in a defiant shrug. "I'm the luckiest girl in the world, because I've got both of you for my moms! If they want to be silly and mean, that's their loss!" She threw her arms around them both as she crashed back onto the bed, pulling them down with her in a fit of giggles.

Tara beamed as Willow tickled their daughter. She, too, suddenly didn't care if her wife did perform magic, at least not this night, not to cheer their daughter. She caressed her with her mind as she thought honestly, I don't think I've ever loved you more.

I love you more every day.
