Author notes: I wanted to write a little piece about the two siblings sharing a happy moment despite Thad’s condition. I used the word dauwtrappen for this work.
Summary: Thad and Kestra enjoy an early morning excursion on Nepenthe.



As the sun beams slowly filtered in through his window, Thaddeus Troi-Riker felt a small surge of energy. He knew his condition was getting worse, but he wanted to enjoy what life he had left. Early morning on Nepenthe was the prime time to do so.

He peeked down the hall to see if anyone else was awake. A small blonde head from the room across the hall was poking out as well. With a shared grin, the siblings quietly climbed down the stairs and out the door.

Thad and Kestra pitter-pattered across the grass, blades sticking to their bare feet with the morning dew. They ran to their secret hideout at the edge of the woods.

Once inside, Thad unfurled his treasured map of Ardani.

“Where to, Wild Girl of the Woods?” Thad asked his sister.

Kestra pointed to a small section of the map labeled Karv.

“You haven’t told me about here yet,” she answered.

Thad smiled.

“Karv is a land of deserts,” Thad explained, “But the people who live there are magic.”

It was almost afternoon by the time the two emerged, laughing and chittering back and forth in Thad’d created language of Viveen. As a bunnicorn hopped down the path in front of them, Thad knew that if this were indeed his last day, he would have no regrets for how it was spent.
