Magic Knight Rayearth: Fanfic: A Proper Start

Title: A Proper Start
Fandom: Magic Knight Rayearth
Rating: General
Length: 300ish words
Content notes: None
Author notes: Very-early post-canon, technically set in the weight of water series I have but I just like the idea of seals working like this and I don't think I've introduced them in anything published yet so this is basically just a snippet of hopeful world-building XD
Summary: It's been a long time since Clef had to use his seal.

oOo

It took almost a month after the restoration of Cephiro before Clef had reason to use his seal.

Before, it had been… was it years? Probably. There hadn’t been much call for paperwork while things disintegrated – literally. No one had been around to implement any paperwork he signed off on, anyway.

But now they had pulled together a first meeting of a new council – all the people who had a role on the Pillar’s advisory council, those where there was someone currently in the post at least, had managed to come together, and the very first thing that they’d agreed was that expanding the council itself, making it properly representative of all the people of Cephiro now that there was no Pillar to represent them and their wishes, bring their prayers to the group and ask for advice on how best to make them work…

Not that the last few Pillars had made much use of the advisory council. Maybe that was one of the things that could have gone better…

But they were here, now, and this one bit of paper the very-new head of the Clerks had drawn up to set out their proposal to expand the council… it gave Clef such hope, looking down at it.

He took the pen with the special registrar ink in it, and signed his name carefully – it had been years since he had done that, too. Then he pulled his seal from his ring, and stamped it down over the damp ink, letting his magic flow through it and pull the glimmering particles out of the ink. When he pulled the seal back, there was a shimmering design stamped over his signature, and the document was ratified.

“There,” he said, softly, unable to keep from smiling – and why would he want to? This was a moment for joy at starting to build something new, something beautiful. “That’s a proper start to things.”
