Summary: Ayla's display with the cave lion forces the Mamutoi at their summer gathering to reevaluate. Rapidly.

Ayla's ability to summon a lion - a very large lion, who is still seated beside her, even as she Calls one of her horses to her - puts matters into perspective for quite a few Mamutoi. The newly adopted member of Lion Camp (and the Mammoth hearth, Mamut's Mammoth hearth) is too close to animals, and to flatheads, for their comfort, perhaps. But she is very clearly gifted by the Mother too - and they can see all to easily the threat of that, less spiritual (although that is not without its own worries) and far more immediate.

The lion is the largest they have ever seen. Ever heard of.

And it has just rolled over so that its belly could be scratched.

What is there that could be done to stop her, if, next, she calls a mammoth to her side? There is talk that it was Ayla who got first sight of the mammoths at the summer hunt, and it is no great leap to think that she may have Called them into the hunters spears, especially with her other gifts.

What if she dries them away? They are Mamutoi, the mammoth hunters. Such a thing is inconceivable. Impossible.
