Fandom: Spooks (MI5)
Rating: G
Length: 538 words
Summary:
Lucas is having problems chosing which type of biscuits to buy.

Adam and Lucas were driving back to Adam’s house on a Friday afternoon, when Adam said, “With the gannet being home this weekend I need to stop for some shopping on the way, as I’d like there to be some food left come Monday morning.”

“Of course,” Lucas replied.  Adam had persuaded him to move in ten days earlier, and Lucas still felt like he was finding his feet.  He’d met Wes a couple of times, but this would be the first time they’d spent the weekend together, and, despite Adam’s reassurance, he was feeling rather nervous.

They pulled into the supermarket car park, and Adam said, “You can stay in the car if you like.”

“No, I’ll come with you.  I can push the trolley.”

They entered the supermarket and Lucas waited as Adam selected fresh fruit and vegetables before they moved into the next aisle.

“What type of biscuits would you like?” Adam asked.

“Um…”

“Why don’t you select a couple of packets while I go and get a few cans of fizzy drink and some crisps.  I don’t like Wes having too much junk food, but I think he’s entitled to something.”

With Adam away, Lucas stared at the shelves of biscuits.  What should he choose?  His first thought had been a large packet of chocolate digestives, but he could hear his mother’s voice saying they were an extravagance, and one biscuit a day was quite sufficient.  His mother had generally selected custard creams for a treat, which seemed reasonable, given that Wes was coming home, but he didn’t really like custard creams.  Jammy Dodgers were fun, but only for birthday parties, and guests first, so he normally never even got one then.  He had just resigned himself to having a small packet of rich tea biscuits, and was reaching out for them, when he heard Adam speak.

“Not decided yet?”

“No, I’m sorry, it’s just…”

“Too much to choose from, too many bad memories.”

“Yes.  What does Wes like?”

“Wes isn’t fussy.  He just empties the biscuit barrel regardless,” Adam laughed.  “What was your first choice?”

“Chocolate digestives.”

Adam reached up and took the large packet Lucas had been looking at.

“Wouldn’t you rather the own brand ones?” Lucas asked.

“These are for you, and you deserve the best.  I’ll get a packet of cheap Bourbons for Wes, since he’ll eat the lot in one evening, and then you can choose one more packet.”

Lucas shook his head.  “I can’t.”

“Okay, what did you always want to have as a kid, but never did?”

“Chocolate fingers.”

Adam picked up a packet and put it in the trolley.  “See, it wasn’t all that difficult, was it?”

“No, being with you makes everything so much easier.”

“I’m pleased to hear it.  Now, all we need to do is find a chicken for Sunday and some sausages and we’re done.  Unless there’s anything else you want?”  Lucas shook his head.

As they put the shopping into the car boot, Adam said, “I thought I’d make a sausage casserole, and while I’m doing that you and Wes can bond over a chocolate biscuit eating session.  How does that grab you?”

Lucas laughed.  “That sounds like a great idea.”
