The garden at Bag End is filled with flowers, from the shyest daisy to the lushest peony. Sam considers himself one of the ordinary sort, not even a garden-flower, but a hedgerow variety: plain and sturdy.

Except at night that is, in the bed he shares with Bag End's Master.

'My beautiful Samwise,' Frodo calls him. 'My lovely one.' With passionate skill he brings Sam to the brink, over and over, until he finally shatters and is spent, like an exotic moonflower that lasts only for one night.

By morning Sam is himself again, and in the bright light of day he will wonder if it had been but a dream.
